Your trip to Nigerian will most likely begin in Lagos – Nigeria’s flagship state. Dubbed the Center of Excellence it represents every aspect of the Nigerian society. It is the country’s economic power house, her entertainment capital and the most populous city in Africa! While Lagos does not hold much in terms of tourist attractions, a visit to Nigeria without a visit to Lagos is incomplete. The question then is why Lagos is so attractive to the millions of people that live here and the thousands that visit each day. Well the simple answer to that question is location. It is her location that made it at one time the capital of Nigeria and the capital of Lagos state. The word Lagos is used interchangeably for Lagos State and Lagos city. Lagos Attractions It is not enough to list Lagos attractions only in terms of tourist attraction because there are not a whole lot of tourist attractions in Lagos; However Lagos has many things that are unique to it. Below are some of the things that I think makes Lagos very attractive to millions of people. - Murtala Mohammed Airport – Opened in 1977 and named after the late Head of State General Murtala Mohammed, the Lagos International Airport is simple the gateway to Nigeria.
- Seaports – The Apapa and Tincan Island wharfs account for about 59% of Nigeria’s non crude oil cargo traffic.
- Tafawa Balewa Square – Named after the first Prime Minister of the country Alhaji Tafawa Balewa and situated at the heart of Lagos Island is arguably the heart of Lagos downtown or Lagos Island as it is called.
- Lagos Business School – Big Business helps sustain Lagos and graduates of the Lagos Business School holds top management positions in some of these businesses in Lagos and beyond.
- National Theater – This Landmark structure is one of the last remaining symbols of Nigeria’s hosting of the Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) in 1977.
- Shopping– The many markets in Lagos attracts hundreds of thousands of people each day!
- Highest concentration of expatriates – The affluent suburbs of Victoria Island and Ikoyi has one of the largest concentrations of expatiates in Nigeria.
- Big Business – Almost every version of Nigeria’s Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Lagos
- Accessibility to most Nigerian Cities – There is a Bus leaving to and from Lagos to every major city in Nigeria. There are daily flights also to and from Lagos to an increasing number of state capitals.

- Accessibility to many African countries – There are daily flights leaving to and from Lagos to an increasing number of African countries.
